Onionwave started as a joke. In 2014, Polish producer unitrΔ_Δudio needed a name for his homemade vaporwave tracks, which sampled quirky Polish pop. Playing off Poland's unofficial nickname, Cebulandia ("Onionland"), he called it "onionwave" – a fake genre for his lo-fi experiments.

But the joke stuck. By 2018, unitrΔ_Δudio (real name: Paweł "P.A.F.F." Kasperski) turned Onionwave into a real label, launching it with his second album POST-LOVE. What began as a nod to Polish culture grew into a global community for artists mixing ambient, house, techno, synthwave, future garage and more.

The name "Onionwave" isn't just about its roots – it's a metaphor. Like peeling an onion, the label digs into layers of sound, emotion, and creativity. Its motto, "Beware of unexpected waves," asks listeners to embrace the weird and surprising.

No egos, no rules. Just honest, curious music full of surprises.
